New England Patriots

Best value of the weekend goes to the Patriots for Nolen: A-.

Call it larceny. Walter Nolen sat on the board until No. 130, and the Patriots did not need to be asked twice. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A-.

Reaching for Daniels left real value on the table behind him. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

It is a haul that will look even better come September.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.27 · Pick 27 · Malaki Starks · S · rank 11
In the 27th overall pick they get a ballhawk on the back end, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Colston Loveland · TE · rank 17
Value with a capital V on Colston Loveland in pick 34, a genuine coup. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.17 · Pick 81 · Kenneth Grant · DT · rank 31
Steal is underselling it; Kenneth Grant at pick No. 81 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.23 · Pick 87 · Quinshon Judkins · RB · rank 22
You do not let a running back like Quinshon Judkins reach No. 87 and blink. They did not. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.2 · Pick 98 · Oscar Delp · TE · rank 72
They will replay Oscar Delp at slot 98 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R4.23 · Pick 119 · Sonny Styles · S · rank 85
Taking Sonny Styles in Round 4, Pick 23 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.27 · Pick 123 · Aireontae Ersery · OT · rank 114
Aireontae Ersery slipping to the Round 4 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R4.28 · Pick 124 · CJ Daniels · WR · rank 189
A swing that ignored the value entirely, CJ Daniels well ahead of where he belonged. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R4.29 · Pick 125 · Damien Martinez · RB · rank 118
Damien Martinez at the 125th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.30 · Pick 126 · Ashton Gillotte · DE-EDGE · rank 35
A edge rusher of that caliber at slot 126 is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.2 · Pick 130 · Walter Nolen · DT · rank 38
Circle this one: Walter Nolen at the 130th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
