The Patriots did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Ashton Gillotte fell into the 141st pick. They executed a plan and it shows in the A-.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Travis Hunter and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a press-man option on the boundary at a price that makes it sweeter. More want than need.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Malaki Starks in slot 34, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Circle this one: Kenneth Grant at pick 56 is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They barely believed it either: Colston Loveland still on the board at the 57th overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They will replay Quinshon Judkins at Round 3, Pick 23 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Steal is underselling it; Oscar Delp at pick No. 109 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They robbed the room for Sonny Styles here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Aireontae Ersery in No. 130 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Ashton Gillotte in slot 141 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
