The Patriots ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Flournoy pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
The Patriots clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 7th overall pick they get a mismatch in the passing game at fair value. A real need, handled.
Nothing to complain about; Bo Nix went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid sticker price for Xavier Legette in pick 38, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They reached a country mile for Trey Benson at the Round 3 slot, and the board is aghast. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Christian Mahogany at pick No. 80 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The roster fit checks out.
A big swing on Ryan Flournoy at No. 180, well ahead of any board in the building. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jordan Magee in the 231st pick. A minor itch, scratched.
Josh Wallace at Round 7, Pick 16 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
