If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Patriots, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.
Mahogany has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
However the rest shakes out, Fuaga at that price is a win they earned.
Bottom line, with Joe Alt leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. A real need, handled.
Circle this one: Taliese Fuaga at the Round 2 slot is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They took Jonathon Brooks at par in the 47th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They talked themselves into Christian Mahogany at Round 3, Pick 4, and the board did not agree. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Johnny Wilson well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They jumped the gun on Luke McCaffrey, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nice patience on Ben Sinnott, who had no business lasting to No. 138. The roster fit checks out.
They paid up for Ryan Flournoy at pick 193 when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
