When a board-topper like Bo Nix slides to No. 66, you do not overthink it, and the Patriots did not.

Reaching for Mahogany left real value on the table behind him. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.4 · Pick 4 · Joe Alt · OT · rank 4
In pick No. 4 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Quinyon Mitchell · CB · rank 19
Value with a capital V on Quinyon Mitchell in slot 34, a genuine coup. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Bo Nix · QB · rank 30
Bo Nix in the Round 3 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Christian Mahogany · OG · rank 98
Value said wait; Christian Mahogany in pick 68 says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R4.3 · Pick 103 · Leonard Taylor III · DL · rank 110
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Leonard Taylor III. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.23 · Pick 123 · Ben Sinnott · TE · rank 129
They paid sticker price for Ben Sinnott in No. 123, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R5.1 · Pick 137 · Tyrone Tracy Jr. · WR · rank 150
They liked Tyrone Tracy Jr. enough to skip the value, taking him in the 137th pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.5 · Pick 180 · Cornelius Johnson · WR · rank 187
A straight-up fair deal on Cornelius Johnson at Round 6, Pick 5, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.18 · Pick 193 · Ryan Flournoy · WR · rank 203
Ryan Flournoy at No. 193 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R7.6 · Pick 226 · Kimani Vidal · RB · rank 252
They reached into another round for Kimani Vidal, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.11 · Pick 231 · Donovan Jennings · OT · rank 238
No edge and no loss on Donovan Jennings in the Round 7 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
