The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
The McCormick pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The cost of the Mahogany reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 11 they get a franchise quarterback at fair value.
Amarius Mims in the 23rd pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They barely believed it either: Taliese Fuaga still on the board at the Round 2 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Christian Mahogany this early at Round 3, Pick 4. A need, and now a little less of one.
A big swing on Johnny Wilson at pick No. 103, well ahead of any board in the building. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Tyrone Tracy Jr. at the 137th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Mason McCormick at pick 180 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Ryan Flournoy at slot 193 is a conviction pick that outran the value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Kimani Vidal. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
