Nobody else had Anim Dankwah anywhere near Round 7, Pick 11. The Patriots did, by 74 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
Caleb Williams is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. Getting Jones where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jaylen Wright well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
By-the-book stuff, Kingsley Suamataia at Round 3, Pick 4 squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Christian Mahogany in slot 103 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A premium they did not need to pay, Luke McCaffrey a notch or two before his time. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Elijah Jones at No. 180 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Bub Means in pick No. 193 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Anim Dankwah at pick 231 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
