The Anim Dankwah pick is the one that will follow the Patriots into the fall. They took him 74 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
Landing Johnson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get protection for the quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Adonai Mitchell in pick No. 34 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Christian Mahogany this early at pick 68. A need, and now a little less of one.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Leonard Taylor III well ahead of where he belonged. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Mason McCormick at slot 137 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Circle this one: Cornelius Johnson at No. 180 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid up for Kimani Vidal at slot 193 when waiting would have done the job. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Anim Dankwah. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
