The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development. No fireworks, but a solid B.
That Corum pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Every board in the league had Bell lower, and that gap is the story. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 3 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
The board had Brian Thomas Jr. higher than the 34th pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No edge and no loss on Patrick Paul in No. 68; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Blake Corum in the 122nd overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jaheim Bell at Round 4, Pick 36 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It fills a real need, too.
Nice patience on Christian Jones, who had no business lasting to pick 144. A need, and now a little less of one.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 182, where Kamal Hadden graded well above the range. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Ryan Cooper Jr. in the Round 7 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
