The Cowboys ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. This is how you run a draft, and the A- reflects it.
On value alone, Morgan makes the weekend a net positive. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 9 they get a difference-maker at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In pick No. 24 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
They barely believed it either: Jordan Morgan still on the board at the 56th overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Sione Vaki at the 174th pick is the proof. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
No edge and no loss on JD Bertrand in No. 216; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Taking Frank Gore Jr. in pick 244 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
