Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B+.

The Caden Curry selection is the head-turner. The Dolphins reached 40 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.

Slaughter falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.

The Stukes pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback still on the board. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Jordyn Tyson · WR · rank 9
In No. 12 they get a true top target. The biggest hole, addressed.
R1.30 · Pick 30 · Jermod McCoy · CB · rank 18
In the Round 1 slot they get a lockdown presence outside, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
R2.11 · Pick 43 · Emmanuel Pregnon · OG · rank 39
Emmanuel Pregnon at slot 43 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.11 · Pick 75 · Emmanuel McNeil-Warren · S · rank 51
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at pick 75 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R3.23 · Pick 87 · Treydan Stukes · CB · rank 96
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with Treydan Stukes while clear needs at quarterback sat open.
R3.26 · Pick 90 · Caden Curry · DE-EDGE · rank 130
Caden Curry at the 90th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.28 · Pick 92 · Jake Slaughter · C · rank 55
You do not let an offensive lineman like Jake Slaughter reach pick 92 and blink. They did not. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.30 · Pick 94 · Ja'Kobi Lane · WR · rank 98
Ja'Kobi Lane in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.12 · Pick 112 · Jude Bowry · OT · rank 128
A reach for Jude Bowry in pick No. 112; a little patience would have been rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Justin Joly · TE · rank 122
Value with a capital V on Justin Joly in slot 130, a genuine coup. It fills a real need, too.
R5.11 · Pick 151 · DeMonte Capehart · DT · rank 137
Nice patience on DeMonte Capehart, who had no business lasting to the 151st pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.11 · Pick 227 · Owen Heinecke · LB · rank 235
Owen Heinecke in the 227th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.22 · Pick 238 · Desmond Reid · RB · rank 248
A reach on Desmond Reid in Round 7, Pick 22; the board had better options right there. The roster fit checks out.
