They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Jayden Daniels is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They will need Van Pran to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The Melton value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get the arm they will build around at fair value.
In the Round 1 slot they get protection for the quarterback. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Troy Fautanu at No. 36, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Graham Barton in slot 40. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No drama and no debate, Ja'Tavion Sanders went about where he belonged in the 47th pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They talked themselves into Sedrick Van Pran at pick No. 67, and the board did not agree. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They read the board right and Malachi Corley was the payoff at pick 100. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A premium they did not need to pay, Max Melton a notch or two before his time. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They will replay Max Melton at pick 141 for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jawhar Jordan. The roster fit checks out.
Curtis Jacobs in pick No. 223 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A minor itch, scratched.
