Boards are made to be trusted, and the Packers shredded theirs for Jase McClellan. He came off 62 spots early, and the room will hear about it.
The Hartman steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 19th pick they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Graham Barton at the 41st overall pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at slot 51 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They reached into another round for Cooper Beebe, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Gabriel Murphy at the Round 3 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A real head-scratcher, Frank Gore Jr. in pick No. 119 is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They talked themselves into Jase McClellan at No. 135, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Darius Muasau in pick 197 is fair value, right on his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A quarterback of that caliber at pick No. 217 is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Value said wait; Ja'Had Carter in the 219th pick says they were not listening. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Caleb Murphy. The roster fit checks out.
