Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Giants came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. The board rewarded a patient, disciplined weekend with a A-.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Simpson. They are betting Gillotte proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Bottom line, with Kris Abrams-Draine leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 26 they get a sticky cover corner, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Troy Fautanu. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Brandon Dorlus at pick 47 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jermaine Burton in the 70th pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for Cam Hart in No. 106, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Ashton Gillotte at the 143rd overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jaylin Simpson at slot 184 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
