The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Jamari Thrash, the 160th pick, roughly 32 picks past where he belonged.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. They went 6 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Quinyon Mitchell in slot 22, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They took Bralen Trice at par in pick 50, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Kamren Kinchens in the 53rd pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Trey Benson in the Round 3 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 160th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board fumbled Marist Liufau all the way to pick No. 170, and they scooped it up. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A slide stopped in Round 5, Pick 35, with Trevor Keegan worth more than the price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Dwight McGlothern at No. 178 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Circle this one: Mason McCormick at Round 6, Pick 14 is a fall that decides a draft. It fills a real need, too.
No edge and no loss on Jordan Magee in slot 240; it is a wash and a sensible one. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
