The board owed the Packers one, and it paid up: Jeremiah Trotter Jr., the No. 64 name on the board, sitting there at No. 92 like a gift left on the doorstep.
That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get juice off the edge, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Calen Bullock in slot 50 is fair value, right on his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Good price on Tyler Guyton in Round 2, Pick 25, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the Round 3 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
By-the-book stuff, Braelon Allen at the 99th pick squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No drama and no debate, Tyler Davis went about where he belonged in the 100th overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Khyree Jackson at pick 125 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Cam Hart at No. 135 is the proof. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Cedric Johnson at the 137th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jordan Travis. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Keith Randolph Jr. in pick 156 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reach on Theo Wease Jr. in the Round 5 slot; the board had better options right there. A need, and now a little less of one.
They read the board right and Bru McCoy was the payoff at pick No. 203. It fills a real need, too.
Michael Barrett at Round 6, Pick 42 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Isaiah Davis at slot 219 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board had Nathaniel Watson higher than the 246th overall pick, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
