The Patriots spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Nicholas Singleton, the No. 100 name on the board, in Round 7, Pick 4.
Kandra has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 4 they get a cornerstone up front, though they paid up to get him. A clean fit for the roster.
Nothing to complain about; Isaiah Bond went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jermari Harris well ahead of where he belonged. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Luke Kandra this early at No. 77. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board fumbled TreVeyon Henderson all the way to the Round 4 slot, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They will replay Deontae Lawson at pick No. 143 for years; that is how good the value is. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Rod Moore in the 217th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Taking Nicholas Singleton in pick 220 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
Circle this one: Seth McLaughlin at the 241st pick is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
