The rest of the league will want that one back. Dominic Zvada tumbling to the Patriots in pick 238 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. Every board in the league had Johnson lower, and that gap is the story. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th overall pick they get a blindside protector, reach and all. A real need, handled.
Matthew Golden at Round 2, Pick 6 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Zy Alexander in slot 69. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A conviction pick on Tez Johnson at pick 77 that the board grades a round light. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Luke Kandra in No. 104 is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board fumbled Danny Stutsman all the way to pick No. 143, and they scooped it up. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Jeffrey Bassa at the 217th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
They robbed the room for Raheim Sanders here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Dominic Zvada at the Round 7 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
