The Patriots spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Dominic Zvada, the No. 95 name on the board, in the Round 7 slot. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They are betting Amos proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.6 · Pick 6 · Will Campbell · OT · rank 15
In pick No. 6 they get protection for the quarterback, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Emeka Egbuka · WR · rank 27
The board had Emeka Egbuka higher than the 37th overall pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Trey Amos · CB · rank 57
They left a pile of value on the table to take Trey Amos this early at pick 38. A minor itch, scratched.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Tyler Warren · TE · rank 43
You do not let a tight end like Tyler Warren reach Round 3, Pick 5 and blink. They did not. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R3.13 · Pick 77 · Tez Johnson · WR · rank 93
They jumped the gun on Tez Johnson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.3 · Pick 104 · Luke Kandra · OG · rank 105
Luke Kandra at the 104th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
R5.6 · Pick 143 · Barrett Carter · LB · rank 81
Barrett Carter in No. 143 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R6.3 · Pick 178 · Cody Simon · LB · rank 122
Cody Simon at slot 178 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
R7.1 · Pick 217 · Chris Paul Jr. · LB · rank 114
Chris Paul Jr. in pick 217 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
R7.4 · Pick 220 · Dominic Zvada · PK · rank 95
They robbed the room for Dominic Zvada here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
R7.22 · Pick 238 · Raheim Sanders · RB · rank 145
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Raheim Sanders in the Round 7 slot, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
