The rest of the league will want that one back. Dominic Zvada tumbling to the Patriots in No. 220 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. The bottom line is a respectable B.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The Alexander pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Will Campbell in slot 14, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Matthew Golden in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They went early on Zy Alexander in the 45th pick, and the value did not follow. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Tyler Warren in Round 3, Pick 5 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They jumped the gun on Tez Johnson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
By-the-book stuff, Luke Kandra at pick 104 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
A linebacker of that caliber at No. 143 is the definition of value, full stop. A minor itch, scratched.
They robbed the room for Cody Simon here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Dominic Zvada in pick 220 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
The board fumbled Jack Kiser all the way to pick No. 232, and they scooped it up. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
They barely believed it either: Raheim Sanders still on the board at slot 238. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
