The Patriots spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Ryan Fitzgerald, the No. 107 name on the board, in slot 238.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Jackson reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 4 they get juice off the edge at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Matthew Golden. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A reach on Donovan Jackson in pick 69; the board had better options right there. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jermari Harris at the 77th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
The board fumbled TreVeyon Henderson all the way to the 104th pick, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Danny Stutsman at pick No. 143 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A minor itch, scratched.
They will replay Lander Barton at slot 217 for years; that is how good the value is. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Kalel Mullings in the Round 7 slot, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
