This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Ryan Fitzgerald, the No. 108 name on the board, stolen at Round 7, Pick 22.
They are betting Cornelius proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a problem off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Emeka Egbuka in the 38th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They reached into another round for Jermari Harris, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They reached a country mile for Ajani Cornelius at No. 77, and the board is aghast. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid sticker price for Luke Kandra in Round 4, Pick 3, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Danny Stutsman at slot 143 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It adds depth where they could use a little.
The board fumbled Cam Skattebo all the way to the 217th pick, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Carson Schwesinger at pick 220 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
You do not let a specialist like Ryan Fitzgerald reach pick 238 and blink. They did not. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
