New England Patriots

The Patriots let Brooks fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-.

Call it larceny. Tahj Brooks sat on the board until the 222nd overall pick, and the Patriots did not need to be asked twice. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

The Johnson reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.3 · Pick 3 · Wyatt Milum · OT · rank 14
Wyatt Milum at No. 3 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Tez Johnson · WR · rank 119
They reached into another round for Tez Johnson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.7 · Pick 71 · Tacario Davis · CB · rank 98
Value said wait; Tacario Davis in the 71st overall pick says they were not listening. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R3.20 · Pick 84 · Luke Kandra · OG · rank 114
They left a pile of value on the table to take Luke Kandra this early at pick No. 84. The roster fit checks out.
R4.6 · Pick 107 · Evan Stewart · WR · rank 103
A reasonable price with a little left over, Evan Stewart in pick 107. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.24 · Pick 125 · Oronde Gadsden II · TE · rank 137
Oronde Gadsden II at the Round 4 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R5.5 · Pick 143 · Jordan Burch · DE · rank 117
Jordan Burch in slot 143 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.17 · Pick 192 · Chris Paul Jr. · LB · rank 122
They will replay Chris Paul Jr. at Round 6, Pick 17 for years; that is how good the value is. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R7.5 · Pick 219 · Logan Jones · C · rank 180
Logan Jones at the Round 7 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R7.8 · Pick 222 · Tahj Brooks · RB · rank 120
They barely believed it either: Tahj Brooks still on the board at slot 222. It fills a real need, too.
R7.22 · Pick 236 · Raheim Sanders · RB · rank 153
Raheim Sanders in pick 236 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
