When a board-topper like Zy Alexander slides to slot 250, you do not overthink it, and the Commanders did not.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense. The phones were busy but the ledger stayed level.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get a premier pass rusher at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Tyler Warren at pick 61 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board fumbled Jihaad Campbell all the way to the 79th pick, and they scooped it up. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Steal is underselling it; Ashton Jeanty at the Round 4 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jahdae Barron in slot 148 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Wyatt Milum reach the 207th overall pick and blink. They did not. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Circle this one: Tre Harris at No. 238 is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Taking Zy Alexander in pick No. 250 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
