You build a draft on nights like this. Daequan Hardy had no business being available in the Round 7 slot, and the Patriots did the only sane thing and turned in the card. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Tupuola-Fetui pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 3 they get a No. 1 receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Ja'Tavion Sanders in Round 2, Pick 2 is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Kiran Amegadjie at the Round 3 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Kamren Kinchens at pick 104 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Nehemiah Pritchett at the 136th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Zion Tupuola-Fetui at No. 182 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Daequan Hardy in the 229th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
