Dallas Cowboys

Larceny in the 233rd pick lands the Cowboys a B-, Dixon and all.

The Cowboys did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Johnny Dixon fell into No. 233.

Reaching for Guerendo left real value on the table behind him. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. Justin Madubuike gives the group a proven body among the projects.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.26 · Pick 26 · Graham Barton · OT · rank 25
In Round 1, Pick 26 they get a blindside protector at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R1.30 · Pick 30 · T'Vondre Sweat · DT · rank 45
In slot 30 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · Jaylen Wright · RB · rank 71
They paid up for Jaylen Wright at the Round 2 slot when waiting would have done the job. The roster fit checks out.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Kiran Amegadjie · OT · rank 66
They paid a round early for Kiran Amegadjie in pick No. 58, more than the board wanted. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Isaac Guerendo · RB · rank 128
A wild overpay on Isaac Guerendo in pick 87, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Jonah Elliss · DE-EDGE · rank 88
They paid sticker price for Jonah Elliss in No. 88, and that is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R4.13 · Pick 113 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 113
Cedric Gray in the 113th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Christian Jones · OT · rank 132
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Christian Jones. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.38 · Pick 174 · Luke McCaffrey · WR · rank 149
Somehow Luke McCaffrey was still sitting there in pick No. 174, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.39 · Pick 214 · Nathaniel Watson · LB · rank 212
By-the-book stuff, Nathaniel Watson at the 214th pick squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R7.13 · Pick 233 · Johnny Dixon · CB · rank 190
A cornerback of that caliber at No. 233 is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R7.24 · Pick 244 · De'Corian Clark · WR · rank 277
De'Corian Clark at the Round 7 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
