There is reaching, and then there is Jha'Quan Jackson at the 182nd overall pick. The Patriots jumped the board by 44 and dared it to prove them wrong.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
Chop Robinson in the 34th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reach for Kiran Amegadjie in Round 2, Pick 10; a little patience would have been rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A clean, defensible pick in the 68th pick with a little surplus value in Javon Bullard. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Dallin Holker at pick 104 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
By-the-book stuff, Jordan Travis at pick No. 136 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jha'Quan Jackson at the Round 6 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Nice patience on Omar Speights, who had no business lasting to pick No. 229. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
