The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Cowboys reached some 53 spots for Tanner Mordecai, and value like that does not grow back. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
The Burton pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. More want than need.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 68 with a little surplus value in Edgerrin Cooper. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reasonable price with a little left over, TreVeyon Henderson in pick No. 93. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Steal is underselling it; Jermaine Burton at No. 103 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 130th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board fumbled Cole Bishop all the way to the 174th pick, and they scooped it up. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Carson Steele. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Value said wait; Tanner Mordecai in the 251st overall pick says they were not listening. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
