The board owed the Cowboys one, and it paid up: Xavier Restrepo, the No. 15 name on the board, sitting there at pick No. 209 like a gift left on the doorstep.
Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 14 they get a ballhawk on the outside at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They barely believed it either: Ashton Jeanty still on the board at the Round 2 slot. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Steal is underselling it; Cam Ward at pick 76 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Taking Wyatt Milum in pick No. 151 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Walter Nolen at Round 5, Pick 30 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Somehow Jahdae Barron was still sitting there in the 170th overall pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They will replay Jalon Walker at the 171st pick for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
You do not let a wide receiver like Tre Harris reach slot 190 and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Xavier Restrepo at the 209th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
