The Vikings did not so much draft Trevor Keegan as overpay for him, 32 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
Drake Maye gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. That safety hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 3 they get the face of the franchise at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In No. 21 they get a difference-maker at receiver. A real need, handled.
Kris Jenkins at Round 2, Pick 10 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
T'Vondre Sweat in the 43rd overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A need, and now a little less of one.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jacob Cowing at the Round 4 slot is the proof. The roster fit checks out.
Fair-plus on Cam Hart, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
The board had Cody Schrader higher than No. 180, and the running back fell to them anyway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Trevor Keegan at pick 219 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
