Call it larceny. Ollie Gordon II sat on the board until the 227th pick, and the Dolphins did not need to be asked twice. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The Weigman pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The trade work was a quiet net positive.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a centerfielder for the defense. More want than need.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 2, Pick 10 with a little surplus value in T.J. Sanders. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They did well to land Clay Webb in slot 75, just ahead of his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They robbed the room for Colston Loveland here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board fumbled Smael Mondon Jr. all the way to No. 99, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Joshua Gray in the 111th pick, miles early. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They went early on Jayden Higgins in the 112th overall pick, and the value did not follow. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A real head-scratcher, Davison Igbinosun in pick 148 is miles ahead of his ranking. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Conner Weigman at pick No. 158 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Steal is underselling it; Bryce Foster at pick 226 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They barely believed it either: Ollie Gordon II still on the board at the 227th overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A straight-up fair deal on Garrett Dellinger at slot 234, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Denver Harris at the 251st pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
