This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Cam Skattebo, the No. 99 name on the board, stolen at pick No. 150. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 18 they get a centerfielder for the defense. More want than need.
Emeka Egbuka in slot 44 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Aireontae Ersery in the 50th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They let Dylan Sampson come to them and pounced at pick No. 76. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Carson Schwesinger slid further than he should have, and No. 97 is lovely value for the linebacker. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Circle this one: Cam Skattebo at the Round 5 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Value with a capital V on Bhayshul Tuten in the 161st pick, a genuine coup. A need, and now a little less of one.
No edge and no loss on Jack Nelson in pick 170; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Tyler Shough in the Round 5 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Steal is underselling it; Pat Bryant at the 174th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
