There is reaching, and then there is Howard Cross III at pick 114. The Cardinals jumped the board by 49 and dared it to prove them wrong. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it. Landing Rourke that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 16th overall pick they get a cornerstone up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
Fair-plus on Benjamin Morrison, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Barrett Carter in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A real head-scratcher, Howard Cross III in pick 114 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kurtis Rourke at slot 153. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
