The Commanders ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided.
However the rest shakes out, Hardy at that price is a win they earned. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Adding Kyle Pitts by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 8th pick they get a No. 1 receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Amarius Mims at slot 36 is the proof. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jackson Powers-Johnson in No. 40. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Patrick Paul at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 99 with a little surplus value in Cam Hart. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid sticker price for Christian Mahogany in pick 101, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Mohamed Kamara at the 138th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Value with a capital V on Sione Vaki in the Round 6 slot, a genuine coup. A minor itch, scratched.
You do not let a cornerback like Daequan Hardy reach the 222nd pick and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
