The war room fell hard for Keylan Rutledge, and it showed at No. 58: 56 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Bell. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 27 they get an anchor for the offensive line. The biggest hole, addressed.
Keylan Rutledge at Round 2, Pick 26 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They robbed the room for Skyler Bell here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Taking Davison Igbinosun in pick No. 133 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Joe Royer at No. 138 is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A slide stopped in the 139th overall pick, with Parker Brailsford worth more than the price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
