You could see the war room lean forward. Quinshon Judkins at pick 148 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
Shedeur Sanders gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere.
The Campbell pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, cornerback very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 1st pick they get the face of the franchise at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
In the Round 1 slot they get a workhorse for the backfield at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
They read the board right and Emeka Egbuka was the payoff at Round 2, Pick 3. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Taking Jalon Walker in the 44th pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They robbed the room for Jihaad Campbell here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They barely believed it either: Quinshon Judkins still on the board at No. 148. It fills a real need, too.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Jake Majors in pick No. 168, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Circle this one: Mason Taylor at slot 170 is a fall that decides a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
Shemar Turner at pick 171 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The roster fit checks out.
DJ Campbell in the 187th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No drama and no debate, Miles Frazier went about where he belonged in pick No. 209. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They did well to land Shilo Sanders in Round 7, Pick 31, just ahead of his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
