Thirty-one other rooms let Javon Bullard slide, and the Commanders were the ones holding the card at Round 3, Pick 37. Highway robbery. No fireworks, but a solid B+.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
The cost of the Sanders reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 6 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
They liked Ja'Tavion Sanders enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 2 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at the 39th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Troy Franklin in No. 40. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the 67th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Javon Bullard in pick No. 100 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They let Bucky Irving come to them and pounced at slot 102. The roster fit checks out.
Nothing to complain about; Cam Hart went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No drama and no debate, Curtis Jacobs went about where he belonged in the 181st pick. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
They took Brevyn Spann-Ford at par in the 223rd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
