Washington Commanders

Grand theft in pick No. 100: the Commanders steal Bullard and grade out a B+.

Thirty-one other rooms let Javon Bullard slide, and the Commanders were the ones holding the card at Round 3, Pick 37. Highway robbery. No fireworks, but a solid B+.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.

The cost of the Sanders reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.6 · Pick 6 · Olumuyiwa Fashanu · OT · rank 10
In pick 6 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Ja'Tavion Sanders · TE · rank 54
They liked Ja'Tavion Sanders enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 2 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R2.7 · Pick 39 · Ennis Rakestraw Jr. · CB · rank 38
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at the 39th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Troy Franklin · WR · rank 25
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Troy Franklin in No. 40. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Jeremiah Trotter Jr. · LB · rank 61
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the 67th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Javon Bullard · S · rank 66
Javon Bullard in pick No. 100 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Bucky Irving · RB · rank 93
They let Bucky Irving come to them and pounced at slot 102. The roster fit checks out.
R5.5 · Pick 141 · Cam Hart · CB · rank 137
Nothing to complain about; Cam Hart went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R6.6 · Pick 181 · Curtis Jacobs · LB · rank 179
No drama and no debate, Curtis Jacobs went about where he belonged in the 181st pick. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
R7.3 · Pick 223 · Brevyn Spann-Ford · TE · rank 224
They took Brevyn Spann-Ford at par in the 223rd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
