The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. On value alone, Jones makes the weekend a net positive. The Paul pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 6 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A clean fit for the roster.
A conviction pick on Patrick Paul at the Round 2 slot that the board grades a round light. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Fair-plus on Kamren Kinchens, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A quiet steal in the 47th overall pick: Xavier Legette for less than the market said. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Chris Braswell in No. 68 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They read the board right and Zak Zinter was the payoff at pick 104. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Ray Davis in Round 4, Pick 8 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A slide stopped in pick No. 136, with Jarrian Jones worth more than the price. A minor itch, scratched.
Nathan Thomas at pick 182 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It fills a real need, too.
The board had Isaiah Neyor higher than the 229th overall pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
