Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Giants were there to profit. Jake Golday, the No. 64 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 105th pick. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The Thomas pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 5 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Caleb Banks at the 37th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in slot 63, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Taking Keionte Scott in pick No. 82 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Somehow Jake Golday was still sitting there in pick 105, and they pounced on premier edge rusher value. The roster fit checks out.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Logan Jones reach the Round 4 slot and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A slide stopped in the 126th overall pick, with Nicholas Singleton worth more than the price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No edge and no loss on DeMonte Capehart in No. 131; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Oscar Delp slid further than he should have, and pick No. 145 is lovely value for the tight end. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A straight-up fair deal on Zxavian Harris at the 154th pick, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They read the board right and Isaiah World was the payoff at the 165th overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Circle this one: Caleb Douglas at the Round 6 slot is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They talked themselves into Zavion Thomas at Round 6, Pick 30, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Robert Spears-Jennings in slot 239 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Latrell McCutchin Sr. at No. 241 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It fills a real need, too.
Logan Taylor at pick 250 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
