The Jets did not so much draft Kamran James as overpay for him, 121 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. A weekend to file away and forget, and an F to match.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. For all the activity, safety went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The Lew value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
The verdict is harsh because the weekend was, and there is little to argue.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 2 they get juice off the edge at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In No. 16 they get a three-down second-level presence, outstanding value to boot. More want than need.
In pick No. 30 they get a wrecking ball inside. A clean fit for the roster.
Chris Brazzell II at slot 33 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They reached into another round for Carson Beck, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Keionte Scott in the 69th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 103rd overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
DeMonte Capehart at pick 140 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They took Anez Cooper at par in Round 5, Pick 39, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A big swing on Kamran James at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A straight-up fair deal on Jaydn Ott at slot 242, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
