The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Cowboys watched Quinshon Judkins slide 95 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. They will need Lachey to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with offensive lineman the one that mattered most. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 12 they get a run-stuffing presence up front. A clean fit for the roster.
Value with a capital V on Tate Ratledge in the Round 2 slot, a genuine coup. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Demetrius Knight Jr. in the 76th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They robbed the room for Kevin Winston Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
The board fumbled Quinshon Judkins all the way to the 168th overall pick, and they scooped it up. The roster fit checks out.
Chris Paul Jr. at pick 170 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Circle this one: Rod Moore at No. 173 is a fall that decides a draft. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
They will replay Shemar Turner at Round 6, Pick 11 for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jeffrey Bassa in pick 209 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Luke Lachey at No. 248 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
