The Chiefs put a flag in the ground for Jimmy Horn Jr., 48 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. On value alone, Jackson makes the weekend a net positive.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a bendy edge with upside, reach and all. A real need, handled.
They did well to land Tre Harris in slot 64, just ahead of his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Tate Ratledge at pick No. 69 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid a round early for Nazir Stackhouse in No. 96, more than the board wanted. A need, and now a little less of one.
They read the board right and Domani Jackson was the payoff at the 128th overall pick. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Jimmy Horn Jr. in the Round 5 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They reached a country mile for Jack Kiser at pick No. 193, and the board is aghast. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They reached into another round for Jarquez Hunter, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
