The trade table was where it all came apart. The Giants shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.
Whatever Jayden Daniels becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. The Laube reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Burton pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 4 they get a difference-maker at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In pick No. 9 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
In the 28th overall pick they get a ballhawk on the outside. A real need, handled.
You do not let a wide receiver like Jermaine Burton reach the 76th pick and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Steal is underselling it; Kris Abrams-Draine at the Round 3 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
They will replay Dominick Puni at pick 108 for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Dylan Laube at No. 122 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
