Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Packers were there to profit. Dylan Fairchild, the No. 70 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 7, Pick 34. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 24 they get a green-dot type in the middle at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
Cam Ward at the 55th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
You do not let a running back like Ashton Jeanty reach the 86th overall pick and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Circle this one: Jordan Hancock at pick 125 is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Somehow Xavier Restrepo was still sitting there in slot 160, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The roster fit checks out.
Wyatt Milum in pick No. 197 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Dylan Fairchild in the Round 7 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
