Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Chris Paul Jr. got past him. The Cardinals do not have to explain a thing at the Round 4 slot.
The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Revel Jr. reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 16 they get a ballhawk on the outside, even if it was a touch early. More want than need.
They paid sticker price for Marcus Mbow in the 47th overall pick, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Aeneas Peebles. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They barely believed it either: Chris Paul Jr. still on the board at pick 114. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Tyler Shough slipping to the 153rd pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
