The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Jayden Daniels, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
The Okie-Anoma pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Mims value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
Good price on Brian Thomas Jr. in slot 34, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Amarius Mims at pick No. 37 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A reach for Xavier Worthy in pick 47; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Patrick Paul. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A tidy bit of business in the 103rd overall pick, where Bucky Irving graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
Ben Sinnott at the 110th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
They talked themselves into Marist Liufau at No. 137, and the board did not agree. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They paid up for Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint at pick 180 when waiting would have done the job. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board had cheaper options than Jaylan Ford at No. 193, and it noticed. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
A big swing on Eyabi Okie-Anoma at pick No. 231, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
