The Cowboys looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Frank Gore Jr. at pick 244 regardless, 24 picks early. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The Suamataia steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 24 they get an anchor for the offensive line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They took T'Vondre Sweat at par in pick 57, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Kingsley Suamataia in pick No. 87 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Brenden Rice in Round 4, Pick 26 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A quiet steal in the 174th pick: Marist Liufau for less than the market said. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Johnny Dixon at the Round 6 slot is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Frank Gore Jr.. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
