The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Eagles watched Chau Smith-Wade slide 20 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. The Ford reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 27 they get a downhill hitter at safety at fair value.
They paid sticker price for Jackson Powers-Johnson in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Brandon Dorlus in Round 2, Pick 27 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Mike Sainristil slipping to slot 97 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid up for Jaylan Ford at pick 156 when waiting would have done the job. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A reach on Michael Barrett in pick No. 172; the board had better options right there. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Taking Chau Smith-Wade in the 178th pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A slide stopped in pick 248, with Demani Richardson worth more than the price. The roster fit checks out.
