The real work happened on the phones. The Eagles fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Reaching for Reiman left real value on the table behind him.
Adding Preston Smith by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies. The Shipley steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term starter on the line. A clean fit for the roster.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 2, Pick 21 with a little surplus value in Edgerrin Cooper. A minor need, but a need all the same.
T.J. Tampa in pick 54 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A tidy bit of business in the 120th pick, where Will Shipley graded well above the range. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Johnny Wilson at No. 126 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Fair-plus on Kitan Oladapo, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A quiet steal in the 171st overall pick: Tykee Smith for less than the market said. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A premium they did not need to pay, Tip Reiman a notch or two before his time. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They jumped the gun on JD Bertrand, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
KT Leveston in Round 7, Pick 23 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
