The Cowboys torched the value chart for Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson, taking him 91 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. This is how you run a draft, and the A- reflects it.
That Stutsman pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Nick Emmanwori and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 31 they get a rangy last line of defense, outstanding value to boot. More want than need.
Circle this one: Isaiah Bond at Round 2, Pick 12 is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They robbed the room for Jalon Walker here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A running back of that caliber at pick 63 is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
Deone Walker in slot 79 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Antwaun Powell-Ryland at the 124th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The roster fit checks out.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Danny Stutsman in the Round 5 slot, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Jake Majors reach pick 166 and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson at the 169th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They reached into another round for Will Lee III, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Raheim Sanders at Round 5, Pick 33 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid up for Jamon Dumas-Johnson at No. 190 when waiting would have done the job. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A real head-scratcher, Savion Williams in pick No. 209 is miles ahead of his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
